QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Hi. I have a 36x40 shop. Light mounting hight will be 12' (bottom of diffuser to floor). I do a lot of detailed machining work. I have power in a 3x3 matrix on the ceiling. I was considering 9x 200 Hero lights with a dimmer (with milky diffuser). I plan on having the lights dimmed to 50% most of the time and only at 100% when I need the lumens. Is this Ok?

We think 9pcs 200w Hero Series High Bay Lights would be too much for your shop, but if you want to use 200w lights anyway we would advise you to just use 5 (1 on each corner and 1 in the center) and see if that is enough for your application and then add more lights if necessary.

  • I have a shop that is 70' x 120' with 16' sidewalls minus an area of 25' x 40' for storage. What would you recommend?

  • Two questions on your 100W Black Hero high bay lights: 1) Can several lights be driven by a single dimmer or does each light need a separate dimmer? I would like 2 to 3 lights on the same electrical breaker circuit to be on one dimmer if possible. 2) Is there any minimum offset from combustible surfaces? My barn is built from wood beams and the roof is tongue-and-groove pine boards where the lights would be installed. Thanks.

Hello Terry. Thank you for your preference. We recommend you to use our 1-10v dimmer. Our Dimmers can dim up to 700W that is to say for example 7 Hero Series High Bay Lights 100W or 4 Hero Series 150W or 3 Hero Series 200W. About the installation distance, we kindly recommend you please contact your local electrician for safety sake.

I have 2 roll up doors 13'9" (1 with motorized door opener) on the 36' wall, so not very much room between the ceiling and the doors when they are open (less than 4 inches) There is 40" between the doors, when open, and 40" between the door and the wall. Wrestling mat would be 40'x40' (competition circle is 30') and the ceiling is about 20' high. Would the 4000k daylight fixture be bright enough? Is the plug-in a regular 3-prong? Thanks!

  • I have a 100'x60' gym with 20'side walls wired for 20 lights what wattage should i use and at what spacing should they be placed.

  • 40 x 40 x 16, I'm thinking 6, 200 watt, 5k.

Yes, of course. The brightness on the floor is 67FC after I make a light simulation, like daylight. The actual light source is less than 16 feet high. Because the light is 0.8 feet high. So the actual brightness is brighter than the calculated brightness.

  • I have a 40x48 shop lights will be hung @ 14'. I would like to go with 5000k color. I would like to go with 6 lights if possible so that they can hang from trusses but I can go to 8 if needed. What would be the recommended setup?

I recommend you use 8 pcs 100watt lights. If you use 6 pcs lights, you need to use 150watt lights. But the height of your shop is 14' which is high enough. The lights maybe produce the glare because the light is too bright. So I suggest you use 8pcs lower watt lights. The brightness using 100watt on the floor is 64FC after I calculate it in our software. If you have any questions, please contact us by email. Thanks.

  • Can these be hard wired together instead of using plug?

Both are okay. There is a plug on our lights. If you do not want to use it, you can cut it down and hard wired.

  • I have a 40 x 60 x 12 garage It is wired for 15 lights 3 rows of 5 and each row is on its own switch. I know this sounds silly but will that be to much? They are spaced about 10 feet apart from each other. What is the diameter of light that they throw out.

  • I am have a 60' X 68' building with 16' walls. There is a 20' X 40' room inside of it with 8' walls, so there is a loft above it. The ceiling is white tin and the walls are painted OSB board. What lights do you recommend and how many? Also would you recommend the light reflectors? I think I want the 4000 color. The building is used for parties, storage, and maintenance projects.

Hello Ben, Thank you for your question. You would need 16 pcs HERO Series 150w  according to the simulation we made (4000K or 50000K depending on what you prefer). Reflectors make the light fixtures more comfortable, provide a 60º beam angle and maximize reflectivity.

  • We have a 75'x90' building with 14 400 watt metal halide fixtures in it. This building is mainly used as a gym and event space, but we would eventually like to transition it to our sanctuary as we grow. The main floor area is 75'x75' and the other 15' is a stage area. The stage area has two fixtures above it and the 75'x75' area has 12 fixtures. The lights are currently setting at approximately 18' high (2 outside rows of 3) and the two middle rows of 3 are currently hung at approximately 20' high. What wattage would I need to sufficiently cover this area? I was looking at the 150 watt black hero series, that has the optional reflector in case the lights are too bright.

I recommend you use 200watt hero series lights in the main floor area and use 150watt hero lights in the stage area. I was advised by height.

  • How many 250w 5000k lights would you recommend in a 40x80x16

Hello Welcome to Hyperlite! We made a lighting simulation based on the info you provided. Please check your email.

You could use 150watt hero series light to replace the one in 16 ft ceiling height. And using 100watt hero lights to replace the other two in side.

  • I have a 28’x48’x12’ garage with two 16’ garage doors. Can you recommend how many lights I would need, watts and brightness? Also do you recommend the deflector?

I recommend you use 6pcs 100watt hero lights. I do not suggest you use the reflectors at first. if you think it is too bright and feel uncomfortable. Then you can use reflector. And the reflectors are easy to install.

  • I have a 40'x40' shop with 16' center line height. I need to work around a large, industrial fan and 3 - 12' garage doors. How many lights and what wattage should I be looking at? Thanks

Dear Bradley Welcome to Hyperlite! We made a lighting simulation based on the info you provided. Please check your email.

  • How many lights would you recommend for a 40x60 shop 20 foot ceiling in the middle. And also what watt lights. Thanks

I will send you suggestions with light simulation to your email.

  • What temperature range will the 150w lights operate in?

    -40℃-55℃

  • How many lights would you recommend in a 50x60 shop with 14 foot ceilings? And what wattage?

I want you to use 12 pcs 100watt hero lights. But if you think it is very bright, you can decrease to 10 pcs lights.  Actually, I recommend you 12 pcs. Because you can dimmer the lights if you feel it bright or you can use reflectors on lights.

  • Wondering how many can be put on one circuit?

Firstly, You need to know the rated power of the circuit. Then we need to know which wattage you use. We can calculate how many can be put on one circuit.

  • How many 150w lights can be wired to one switch? Assuming 20 amp breaker?

If the power voltage is 110V. The Amp of each light is 1.36A (150watt/110v=1.36A). So you can install 12 pcs 150 watt lights in a 20 amp breaker. Because I do not suggest you use full load of breaker. Normally, the biggest amp you can use the breaker is 80% rated power. The algorithm is (20Amp*80%)/1.36Amp=12pcs.

  • Is the plug for electric supply a regular 110-120 plug or does it have a special plug? Also what does (color temperature 4000k and 5000k) mean? I want the brighter one for a shop.

The plug is for electric supply a regular 110-277 plug. So you can use it. The 4000K light is warmer than 5000K. The color temperature of cool light is 5000K. The daylight is 4000K.
The color temperature is the scale indicating the light color of the light source, and the unit is K (Kelvin). The higher the color temperature, the colder the feeling is. The lower the color temperature is, the warmer the feeling is. The north and south spans of the United States are large and the climate is also obviously different. In the use of lamps, we recommend the northern part of the United States like Wisconsin, New York, and Michigan. In colder areas, choosing a lamp with a color temperature of 4000K will give you a warm feeling, which will make you more comfortable and work more efficiently. In the southern part of the United States, such as Florida and Louisiana, the use of 5000K lights will make the use of 5000K lamps. People feel cooler and smooth the heart.
