How tall should a parking lot light be?

How tall should a parking lot light be?

Tony Black |

Average parking lot lights range from 9 to 14ft. The objective for parking lot lights is to provide enough illumination and avoid excessive unwanted glare. Parking lot lights are a great feature for outdoor spaces, they can be used as street lights or street pole lights, they make places more accessible and provide security and protection when sunlight is not available.
How tall is the average street light or parking lot light?
Mainly it will depend on the planned application, street light poles can be eight to fifty feet high (8ft to 50ft) (2.4 – 15.2m) If parking lot lights or street lights are taller than 50ft they can be called high-masts.
Currently new parking lot lighting technologies are being implemented such as LED chips for higher energy efficiency and lower maintenance costs.

The higher the parking lot light is installed the wider the area it can illuminate, but it mainly will depend on the type of illumination your application requires, what type of activity you are planning to carry out under the parking lot light, if you are going to use it just for accessibility you won’t need too many foot candles on the floor, but if you are planning to use the parking lot lights to illuminate a sports field you will need more light, the illumination requirements for that application are higher.
